Moonlight on the North Sea

13th January 2012
During a business trip to Belgium this week, I took my Canon G9 camera, on the off chance that I might get a few shots of either a glorious sun set (or rise) on the ferry crossing to the continent or of a quaint market square at my destination of Geel, Belgium. Unfortunately I got neither. The ferry crossings didn't yield any red-orange sunsets and the market square in Geel is anything but picturesque (especially with the extensive building works taking place at the moment).
I did however capture a shot of the moon light on the North Sea on the outward bound ferry crossing. Waking up at 5:30, I couldn't resist having a glimpse through the cabin window to check for any signs of a spectacular sunrise. Of course it was far too early for any sign of the sun, but the moon was out in full, reflecting brightly off the sea, with glimpses of the brightly lit gas rigs in the distance.
Conditions for taking photographs were not great, trying to capture a long exposure shot with my camera sat on an upturned bin, point through quite a murky glass porthole window. However, after several attempts, I did capture something which at least gives the atmosphere of the conditions at the time. All good practise!
