Fame at Last!

01st January 2013
Due to being pestered for some time by my daughter Emily, I finally sent a photo to BBC Look North this week for featuring on their early evening news local photo slot. To my surprise, it was shown the very next evening on Friday 30th April. The photo, of the sunset at the Paull Nature Reserve, was taken earlier in the week on the Monday.

On Monday evening, the sun was out and there where clouds in the sky - perfect conditions for a good sunset. When Tracey, my wife, said she planned to meet a friend for a walk along the Humber foreshore at Paull, I just couldn't resist the opportunity of potentially getting some pictures a good sunset shot at the Nature Reserve.

I'd been to the nature reserve a couple of times the previous weeks, hoping to get a sunset shot, with little success. Arriving that evening at the reserve, with the sun starting to go down, all was looking good for some good pictures. The tide was out, giving some interesting views of the mud flats, a few clouds gave some interest in the sky which showed some shades of yellow, orange and red as the sun began to set. Conditions were near perfect. Even the ferry went buy at the right time to get a good shot of the sun setting behind the ferry (this was one of the two photos I finally sent off to Look North).

I stayed in the same spot for about an hour and a half, taking, what I hoped, would be some good shots. A few walkers passed by who joked that I was taking the next photo for Look North!

With the sun now down, and my wife and her fried heading back to the car, I followed behind, trying to get some final pictures as the views across the mud flats darkened.

I downloaded the photos later in the week and to my pleasant surprise found (even if say so myself) what some really good pictures - just what I was looking for.

Late on Thursday night I sent off a couple of pictures to Look North. To the surprise of Emily, who was fortunately watching the news at the time with the rest of the family, the photo was broadcast on the Friday evening, with the words of Peter Levy "a stunning photograph". Praise indeed!
